Classic American CocktailsCreated by Harry Cipriani in 1948 at Harry’s Bar in Venice. Named after the 15th-century Venetian painter Giovanni Bellini who’s works seemed to have a “pink glow” which is reproduced in the drink.
This drink was invented and named by the fictional secret agent James Bond in the 1953 novel Casino Royale.
The original recipe for this cocktail dates back to 1862. Here we use an adaptation found in W.J. Tarling’s 1937 Café Royal Cocktail Book.
Made famous at Shoemaker’s Restaurant in Washington, DC during the 1890’s.
Said to have been invented by a WWI French flying ace who believed his creation had the kick of a powerful French 75mm howitzer artillery piece. This is one of those great drinks that is sure to stir up controversy over its ingredients. The oldest recipe we found dates back to 1930 and is what we use here.
Originally called blanc-cassis, the drink is now named after Félix Kir, mayor of Dijon in Burgundy, who was revered fro his work in the French Resistance during WWII. He popularized the drink by offering it at receptions to visiting delegations after the war. If
you prefer white wine, try the Kir.
This is one of the world’s finest drinks. Supposedly created in 1919 by Count Negroni by asking an Italian bartender to substitute Gin for soda water in his Americano.
Named for a customer who would travel to his favorite “little” Parisian Bar (Hotel Ritz) in a
sidecar during the First World War.
